Bolt Run
Run, jump, and do not touch the spikes.
How to play Bolt Run
Get from the start of the level to the exit door without landing on anything sharp. Bolt Run is a momentum platformer, so your character keeps a little speed when you change direction — expect to slide slightly on landing until you get a feel for it.
Jump height is variable. A tap gives you a short hop; holding the jump key gives you the full arc. Most of the tighter gaps in the back half of the game need a deliberately short jump rather than a maximum one.
Every level hides three bolts. None of them are required to finish, and all of them are placed somewhere that costs you time or takes a riskier route. Collecting all three in a level is a separate challenge from simply clearing it.
Your best time and bolt count for each level are saved in your browser. Levels unlock in order, and pressing R restarts instantly with no penalty, so retrying a tricky section is meant to be cheap.
Tips and strategy
- Moving platforms hand you their momentum when you jump off. Leaving a platform while it is travelling in your direction gets you distance a standing jump cannot.
- When a jump feels impossible, you are usually jumping too early. Run to the very edge of the ledge first — there is a few frames of coyote time after you leave it.
- Go for the clear first, then hunt bolts on a second run. Trying to do both on a blind first attempt is how most runs end in a spike pit.
